Anson Mae has introduced a new high power TOtem pole PFC controller that meets challenging energy efficiency standards

March 22, 2022 -- Onsemi (NASDAQ: ON), a leader in smart power supply and intelligent sensing technology, has introduced its latest hybrid signal controller dedicated to bridgeless totem pole Power factor correction (TP PFC) topologies.The target application of NCP1681 is ultra high density off-line power supply.The new controller builds on the success of the NCP1680 for up to 350 W designs, extending the power capability into the kilowatt range.

In the past, TP PFC designs required MCU, which increased design complexity and required coding.Now with NCP1681, you can save time, cost and space by adding a few external devices and implementing a fully functional TP PFC solution without coding.

The NCP1681 can be configured to operate in fixed frequency continuous conduction mode (CCM) or multiple modes, with the controller switching naturally between CCM and critical conduction mode (CrM) to achieve optimal performance at various power levels.

The new NCP1681 high power TP PFC controller combines proven control algorithms and novel features to provide a high performance and cost-effective TP PFC solution that can also meet challenging energy efficiency standards such as "80Plus" or "CoC Tier 2" that require high energy efficiency over a wide load range.

The new NCP1681 is suitable for higher power supplies in the 350 W to several kilowatts range, operating on general purpose power inputs (90-265 Vac), and is widely used in applications including server, high performance computing, telecommunications, industrial and OLED TVS.The NCP1681 TP PFC solution achieves nearly 99% energy efficiency at high voltage inputs.

The NCP1681 will compete with the award-winning low power (<300W)NCP1680 was presented together at APEC 2022 at the George R.Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, USA.The demonstrations will be available from March 21 to March 23 at the Anson Mae booth (1124).

In addition to TP PFC controllers, Anson Also offers a variety of SiC MOSFETs and isolated gate drivers that can be used for fast branches of totem poles.SiC MOSFET devices have low on-resistance (RDS(ON)) and compact chip size, ensuring low capacitance and gate charge (Qg), providing extremely high energy efficiency at reduced system size and thus achieving high power density.When used with the NCP51561 electrically isolated gate driver, a stable and reliable design can be achieved without sacrificing switching performance.
